Brain development is part of cognitive development. Cognitive development describes how a child’s intellect grows, and includes thinking and learning problem-solving skills. These skills affect all other areas of development. Early years of children’s life is very important for their physical and mental development. From birth to age 5, a child’s brain develops more than at any other time in life. Early brain development has an everlasting impact on a child’s ability to learn and succeed in life. The quality of activities that a child’s experiences in the first few years of life positive or negative – helps to shape how their brain develops. At birth, the average baby’s brain is about a quarter of the size of the average adult brain. Incredibly, it doubled its size in the first year.
It keeps growing to about 80% of adult size by age 3 and 90% – nearly full grown – by age 5.So as a parent we should give them ample opportunities to learn and grow. First five years of a child’s life should be a balance of creation, imagination and a positive environment.
